Family coverage covers spouse and dependents for a percentage of the employee’s insurance amount. For example:

  • Employee is covered for $25,000.
  • Spouse is covered for $12,500 (50%) if they have dependents; $15,000 (60%) if they do not have dependents.
  • Each dependent child is covered for $2,500 (10%) if there is a Spouse; or $5,000 (20%) if there is no spouse.

The premium for this family coverage is calculated based on the Employee’s coverage amount and the family rate: that is $25,000 * $0.04 = $1.00 per month to cover the whole family (EE, Spouse, and Dependent children)

Coverage terminates when the employee reaches age 70 or retirement, whichever is first

The calculated Premiums are based on the information you have provided above and are subject to change if the information is incorrect.

Optional Life Insurance Coverage

While there is Life Insurance coverage included in your SCIP plan, Optional Life Insurance increases the benefit amount paid to the named beneficiary in the event of an insured person’s death. Depending upon your life stage and status, extending your Life Insurance coverage can provide additional piece of mind to cover expenses and obligations for your loved ones and beneficiaries.

Optional AD&D Coverage

While there is Accidental Death and Dismemberment (AD&D) coverage included in your SCIP plan, Optional AD&D coverage provides additional financial assistance for injury or bodily harm as the result of an accident to a plan member.

Optional Critical Illness Coverage

Optional Critical Illness Coverage provides financial assistance so you can maintain your standard of living and focus on recovery in the event you are diagnosed with a critical illness such as heart attack, stroke, kidney disease and cancer among others.  Eligible claims will receive a tax-free lump sum payment to help you cover the costs of the illness that is covered by your policy.
